Bernard Harcourt will lecture on the prospect of “Rethinking the Critique of Violence/Power.” “We are mostly familiar with leading twentieth-century critiques of violence and power—Walter Benjamin’s for instance, or Foucault’s,” Harcourt writes in the abstract for his lecture. “But can those critiques serve us in this turmoil of the twenty-first century? Is it time to rethink or develop new critiques of violence and power in the age of contested facts? Perhaps it is time to think hard about this question.”
